GAK!!! It’s snowing AgAiN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We musta got almost 5ft this winter. Oh, forgot I havent been on in a while, we moved to Vermont. Back to New England. Where it snows more than a few inches and we get a snow day. I wish you could see outside, it started up again with HUGE flakes and the trees have horror frost on them. AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I like how the trees look and how the snow makes it so that you get great tracks.
Well, I gotta go now, I’m writing this in Homeroom, so I better scat before Jane yells at me.
TTFN!

This year, for Rumney school’s residency, we learned how to drum in taiko style. I had a really fun time drumming, and the whole school did too! One thing I learned about Japan’s culture is that it is not polite to hide your eyebrows. Some other things that I learned is that if you wear a headband around your forehead you can think better. One thing I noticed about the headbands is that if you make it and print a Japanise character on it with printing ink you get a headache. In Japanese ’Hai’ (h-i) means yes.
The taiko taiko piece all of third and fourth graders learned is called Esame Goma (e-saw-me go-ma). During the first drumming class I learned that ‘don’ in english ‘boom’ is hitting the center of the drum with your right hand.’Con’ in english ‘boom’ agin is hitting the center of the drum with your left hand.’Su’ is a break in time in other words a rest.’Cha’ in english clank or click is tapping the side of the drum with one hand on one side.
FOR MORE INFO:
“Taiko drumming started 1,500 years ago” say the whole school in unison.
Taiko drumming started 1,500 years ago in Japan that was the same time karate did.

When I think, I’m deep in thought. I can’t tell if one is talking to me, if I am really thinking. Some times I am so deep in thought I fall asleep, or talk and talk. This might rhyme, but I am not trying to because I am deep in thought of why, we think and now I understand because we must ponder to find what is real, and is not.
Far away,
on a Wednesday,
Go to a place where you play crochet,
and watch ballet,
from the meadow of Calafornia,
and go to a buffet.
To this day,
this magical land,
(called dreamland),
from the meadows of Calafornia,
to the houses of England,
an eichhornia (a flower) grows in Dreamland.
The cardiac muscle is on the walls of your heart. It has several parts:
*Crossed striations – cardiac muscles are striped.
*Nuclei – controls a muscle cell, skeletal and smooth muscles as well.
*Myocytes – a muscle cell, witch are also in all types of muscle.
*Intercalated disks – Is a double membrane witch separates myocytes.
The cardiac muscles are Y shaped, and shorter but fatter than skeletal muscles. To live, your cardiac muscles are essential. Some things say ‘good for your heart’ but they are really good for your cardiac muscles. Why? Because they line your heart!
Your myocytes are important, too! These work independently, and beat with a ‘one, two’ pattern. Cardiac myocytes are a kind of highly specialized muscle cell. Myocytes are not exclusive to the tissue of a cardiac muscle. Through a functional process known as automaticity, myocytes enable the heart muscle to generate electrical impulses. Structurally speaking, they sort of resemble a piece of sushi.
An intercalated is an undulating double membrane separating adjacent cells in cardiac fibers. Intercalated discs support working together contraction of cardiac tissue. They can easily be visualized by a long section of the tissue.Three types of membrane junctions exist within an intercalated disc—facia, adheren, desmosomes, and gap junctions.
*Facia- are anchoring sites for actin, and connects to the closes sacmore. *Adherens- stop separation during contraction by binding intermediate filaments joining the cells together also called a demosome.
*Gap Junction- allow action potentials to spread between myocytes by permitting the passage of ions between cells.
When observing cardiac tissue through a microscope, intercalated discs are an identifying feature of these magnificent muscles.
A nuclei is membrane enclosed in organelle. An organelle is something that has a specific function on its own. It also has a lipid bylayer. a lipid bylayer is like a heave winter coat for an organelle. Can you imagine having hundreds, or even THOUSANDS!?!? Well, it’s true, you have thousands of nuclei in just a streach of a cardiac muscle.
So you get what a cardiac muscle is.
I sat up in bed and yawned. I checked my watch. Still 8:16. It has been 8:16 since… 8:16. It’s been days. I got out of bed and went down two flights of stairs to the kitchen. The pale yellow wallpaper was the only thing to greet me. The counter tops were still littered with dirty dishes from… last night. Mom was sitting, news paper in hand. It said it was the 18th of January. It doesn’t seem like that now. I walked up to Mom and screamed in agony, clutching my wrist. If she was… lively she would have all ready called 9-1-1. I wasn’t hungry, like when 8:16 started. I walked out side and stretched with a mighty groan. My neighbor twitched slightly. She was quite beautiful. Long blond curls crusaded from the top of her angelic face. My head whipped around in time to see her adjust her right foot. “AH-HA!!” I shouted.
She sighed, Her icy breath chilling me to the bones. “WELL? Do you… you know… have it?” she asked me quietly.
“Woah! What makes you think…. Did I do this?” I stammered.
“Yes. And that means you must undo it, as well. Find the portal, and you can!” and went POOF! just like that. So I had it? I have it. I HAVE IT! “YESSSSSS!!!!! I haave it, mmhhnn mmhhnn!” I sung out to the minute of 8:16. Then, quieter, I whispered, “I must find the portal to restore 8:17!” I had no idea what I was getting myself into.
I started my search at the N.E.R.D. store at the mall. I had a lucky guess. “I wish the portal to restore 8:17 was right… HERE!” I pointed to a large, flat, metal square. A stone dragon appeared. I picked it up, grinning madly. A soft, iridescent glow made its way to the surface. I screamed, dropping it. It shattered, leaving an orange dragon in its place. It glared at me and sucked in a huge, long breath. On instinct, I shouted out “I HATE, HATE, HATE, DRAGONS!!!” Instantly, the beast was a small kitten, still orange, mind you. It stuck out its tongue a second to late. “You don’t look like a fierce dragon now, just a kitty with an attitude!” I giggled toward the cat.
“You are so RUDE!!!” the cat replied. “I could never breath fire in the first place! Oh! I am Kortal-Kanzaie. Call me Zaie. You froze time? We need to go battle The Evil Northingath! He has been waiting a long time for you!” The cat, Zaie, yammered on.
“Hi I am Jasmine and sorry, yes, why ME?” I responded, stunned.
“BECAUSE!!! Now teleport us to Arkansas!!!” Zaie screamed at me. “Okay! No need to be so loud!!!” I shout back. Next, Zaie stays quiet long enough for me to wish to go to Arkansas. A soft wind whips my face then I open my eyes. The scenery was ugly. Several, long, dusty paths stretched as far as the eye could see. A few plants scattered, and very thirsty, were the only living organism for miles around. “where do we go now?” I whisper to him.
“THE PORTAL!” he shouts in my ear. “Sheesh! No need to yell! I an right here!” I respond.
“And no ones around for miles so whats with the whispering?” he tells me in a mocking whisper.
“hmmph!” was all I said before I wished for the portal. That familiar wind that whips across my face came. Soon we were in a long corridor stone black with a tall man with a moustache that looked like a fish hook stood in front of me. I tried to run but was frozen solid! I wished to be free from being frozen but no words came. “ Bwa-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha! I am Northingath! Bow to me!!! Mwahaha!” the man said.
“Mffif mrif!” that is the only thing I could say being frozen. “M Mif Mat Moo Mer Mrif!” I mumble and it works! The man turned into Zaie and I unfroze. “So what I didn’t tell you I have it!!! I liked the look on your face when I said ‘Northingath’! It was HILARIOUS! He’s standing behind me! Ya right! Now lets go defeat the brute!” Zaie said as I was able to move. So we walked on. And on. AND ON!!! When are we going to get to…. anything!! I thought.
Soon. Very soon. a voice like Zaie’s sounded in my head.
I didn’t even think then. Soon we reached a man an awful lot like Zaie’s imitation of Northingath. I was frozen once more.
The man laughed. “Mwahaha!” the man laughed. “Kortal-Kanzaie! You have escaped me! That means…” he dropped to his knees and looked at me. “Have.. have you frozen time? How? You are from the legend, right?” Northingath said to me.
“I… well… what legend?” I asked baffled.
“If you have frozen time… how?”
“I said ‘I hate time’ and POOF time was frozen.” I responded.
He began to rise. “Even if you freeze time, I wont be frozen.” I pointed out. I quickly spat out, “I wish you were a tiny bug and that your powers never existed!!” just that happened.
“COOL!!!!” Zaie shouted.
“Thanks…” I mumbled then stepped on him. A crate appeared. I walked over to it. Then, I wished to be home. Then I ran up 2 flights of stairs and Mom shouted, “WAKE UP CALL!!” and I raced down the stairs. “Can I have a kitten?” I ask.
“Sure!” Mom replies. Zaie comes out. “this is Zaie.” I tell her.
“How do you do?” Zaie asks. She faints. Typical Mom. I went upstairs and fall asleep.
I wake up and check my watch It was 8:17, same as when I fell asleep. “Not again!” I shout into the world of 8:17. Zaie was frozen. “EVEN WORSE!!” and with that I raced to see if my neighbor, the one with long, blond hair, was there.
I went to a chinese restaurant to get a loaf of bread. And the waiter asked me what I wanted and I said a loaf of bread.
he said “we do not have any”.so I said “of course you do my mommy said ‘now you got to the chinese restaurant and
fetch a loaf of bread’so you must have some”. So if you go to a chinese restaurant to fetch a loaf of bread do not go to
that one because I love chinese food and it will be all gone when you get there!!
THE END
Hunger Mountain Poem
Hunger Mountain
Tall and vast,
Rocky and a forest,
all in one
Leaves glimmering in the sun,
Red like a ruby,
Gold like flame
A rainbow of colors for all to see
Listen to the wind as it whispers to the trees,
Feel the wind, cold like ice
See the sky, a sapphire ocean,
With pearls swimming in the blue.
Sniff the evergreens on the summit,
clinging to the edge
Taste the fresh mountain air
Take the trail,
Follow the path,
Enjoy the sights,
Stimulate the senses,
Have the time of your life…
Sing along
Muscles
by: Jasmine Apel and Anne-Marie Mattogno
Muscles, muscles we have 3 types;
the smooth, cardiac, and skeletal.
Smooth is called involuntary also cardiac is on the walls of your heart,
and skeletal muscles attached to your bones.
Smooth is in all hollow organs except for your heart
and is spindle shaped!
Cardiac and skeletal are striped!
All are made of elastic like tissue!
Smooth makes air flow through your lungs,
Cardiac makes your heart beat,
Skeletal pulls on your bones and makes-them-move!
Oxygen makes them function right!
Muscles, muscles we have 3 types;
the smooth, cardiac, and skeletal.
